Walter G. Robbins Jr. Age 84, of Cheswold, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in Dover, DE.

Walt was born February 26, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of the late Walter G. Robbins and Margaret Elizabeth Baldt Robbins. Growing up in Havertown, PA, he enjoyed movies and cartoons at the Tower Theatre, and participated in the Boy Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout and serving as a counselor at Camp Rodney in his teens and later as a Cub Scout leader in Brandywine Hundred. Walt began his college education at Drexel University leaving for a time to serve as an MP in the Marines. After completing his military service, Walt returned to Drexel University where he earned a degree in engineering and met his future wife, Martha Dornbusch of Hazleton, PA. After marrying, they moved to Delaware where Walt worked for Delmarva Power for over 34 years mainly in the Gas Distribution Department. 

Walt settled in North Wilmington where he and Martha raised 5 children and lived for many years. Walt and Martha were married for 57 years before Martha passed away in 2008. In 2010, he married Frances Deneumoustier and moved to Cheswold, DE. Walt had a strong interest in traditional American music, and was a founding member of the Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music serving on the Board of Directors for many years. He was also involved in railroading, volunteering at the Wilmington and Western Railroad and being a long time member of the National Historic Railroad Society. In addition, he was a member of the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association participating in many of their events in Kinzer, PA including being the engineer of Little Toot Railroad at the annual Threshermen's Reunion for many years. More recently, Walt had become a NASCAR fan. He was a longtime member of St. David's Episcopal Church serving as an usher for many years, and had recently become a member of Cheswold United Methodist Church. He was a good, honest and kind man, and will be missed by all who knew him. 

In addition to his first wife, Walt was predeceased by his son, George H. Robbins. Walt is survived by his wife, Frances Robbins; his children, Elizabeth Wickersham of Newark, DE; Charles Robbins (Barbara) of Carrollton, TX; Lucy Robbins (Scott Cook) of Bear, DE; and Rebecca Ashley (Duane) of Newark, DE; and grandchildren, Corey, Carly and Drew Cook, Corwin Wickersham IV, and Jon, Daniel and Catherine Ashley. In addition, he is survived by his stepson, Ralph Deneumoustier (Cheryl) and their daughter, Tabitha.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, February 25, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 2320 Grubb Road, Wilmington, DE 19810, where friends may call at 10 am. Interment will follow at Chester Bethel Cemetery.
